5 Stars for the food 4.5 Stars for the service. It is normally on point but at times things happen. 5 stars for atmosphere and uniqueness I have eaten here a couple times now and it never disappoints. The pork nachos are a personal favorite, which is a staple on the menu. I love that the menu is ever changing and the chef is introducing us to new flavors. The beer menu is great for craft beer lovers like my husband. I cannot wait to go back for another delicious meal.

I love this restaurant! They are very accommodating to food allergies/intolerances and can make your meal taste gourmet. The manager and staff are awesome!

For where it's located, central Wisconsin, it's pretty good. We are spoiled by suburban Chicago's really good food at the same or lower price point as Father Fats. We will go back unless something better pops up in Point.

What a marvelous experience. The ribs were EXCELLANT with fresh local choices each with unique tastes that were very enjoyable. They filled up fast in Friday evening so come early if you can.

Atmosphere: The inside decor is really neat! Very modern take with some added softness. It's a fun place to eat but it's also quite small inside so even if the place is half full, it can get quite loud. Food: It's a tapas style restaurant - so small morsels of delicious but quite a dent in the pocket. I love the idea of being able to try and share several dishes but I don't like that it costs quite a bit of money to feel satisfied. It's probably best to come here just for a happy-hour or lunch situation where you typically want to keep it light. The drinks are also very tasty - the brandy old fashioned sweet being my top pick. Service: The service has always been excellent every time I've been here. The bartenders and servers across the board are very attentive and prompt. They have also been very polite and eager to make the experience good. In summary: Good food, good drinks, high prices. Still a nice place to treat yourself if you can!

Excellent food and great service!!!! We found this place on Yelp, and thanks to all the previous reviews we tried it. We cannot wait to go back. The mushroom soup was decadent and so were the desserts.

This place is amazing. It is the best restaurant in the Stevens Point area and probably my favorite restaurant ever.

Innovative food in Stevens point? Looks great, I'll have to try it some time. Reviewing so i can look it up next time I'm in town.

The food is superb. It's great to see the unique takes on classic items likes Eggs Benedict served up on a waffle and the local ingredients grown right outside is a neat, sustainable touch. The thing that bothered me the most was the clash of the food quality and the atmosphere. The place is small and noisy and for the price of the food, I would expect to be seated on something a little more thoughtful than high-school level plastic chairs. The murals on the wall are cool but they don't seem to fit the area of Stevens Point, the connection seems lost and with all the people around, I felt anxious and rushed to finish my meal. Just alright. Food is a winner, but the overall mix didn't jive with me.

Went last night for the first time -- first time in Wisconsin, first time at Father Fats. We had an overall really good experience. Because our group had dining issues, we weren't able to share the dishes, which is really ideal when you eat Tapas style. It's kind of misleading to call it Tapas, which really applies to Spanish-style food, and the smaller plates here are really diverse in their flavorings and presentations. Everyone was happy with what they got, with one exception. I had the lamb meatballs with tzatziki and it was excellent. Perfect size, just filling enough. Two others had the lettuce wraps with chicken and said they were delicious. One diner had the shrimp and corn fritters, which came with a dipping sauce that she said made it too rich. She felt there was a lot of dough so it wasn't as pleasant. She asked our server for some slaw on the side, and he and the kitchen took care of it right away. The acidic flavor balanced it out and she enjoyed it better. Desserts were yummy -- I had the salted caramel devil's food cake dessert and it came in a small dessert glass -- the perfect size for just a taste of sweet. Again, loved the portion sizes. Speaking of our server, he was really terrific. Very accommodating and well informed. The place was packed, so expect to have a leisurely meal and to enjoy it. Their beer selection is fantastic -- love the local brews! They also have mixed drinks and drink specials and the prices for the drinks and entire meal were completely reasonable! We ended up sitting outside which was just wonderful. This is a perfect place for date night or a small group -- I really recommend it.

A group of five of us came here on Friday night in July. It is rather small and we were ok to wait. Was able to grab 2 chairs at the bar while we waited for a table. It's very warm in the bar area, as they didn't have the air on and just the windows cracked. We wanted to sit outside on the patio but we were unable to get a spot due to one other large group that wouldn't leave, so we sat inside. Our waitress Ali was very good and checked on is all night long and recommended dishes. The food was very good. The pork nachos were awesome as was the special spare rib bruschetta. We had a variety of other things and sampled three cheeses which melted in your mouth. The only complaint we all had was that it was extremely loud inside. We all felt like we had to yell to hear each other. I think it is just the acoustics of the building and there isn't much you can do about that when it's packed. Other than that the food was great, the menu is unique and the atmosphere is nice. I'd come back and sample a few other dishes.

Father Fat's is the best place in the Stevens Point area for an upscale happy hour. There is a wide variety of small plate choices ranging from $7 to $14. Anything you select is unlikely to disappoint. During a recent visit, My group enjoyed their scallops, firecracker shrimp, duck crepes, pork tenderloin, lettuce wraps, flatbread, meatballs and one of their cheese plates. I'm a fan of cheese plates in general -- and Father Fat's makes good cheese selections. They pair well with wine, beer or cocktails. The firecracker shrimp was a highlight -- a perfectly-spiced cajun pepper sauce that coated perfectly-cooked shrimp and crisp toast. The Scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. This place doesn't overcook seafood -- a common problem in local restaurants. Father Fat's would be at home in any metropolitan area. In Stevens Point, it's a standout destination.

Prices are reasonable, and the food is outright incredible. Great for dinners as a group, but we also love it for a late breakfast on Sundays. I highly recommend the chicken and waffles!

Spectacular food selection. We went on Fat Tuesday and they had a New Orleans themed menu for the night, including special drinks. I really like the idea of different daily menus, it lends itself to frequent repeat visits! I only wish I lived a little closer than Texas. Hopefully I will get to visit it again soon.

Had excellent small plates dinner here last week. I understand the menu changes daily. On the day we were there, we tried a quinoa and squash dish that was outstanding, some scallops wrapped in bacon, also excellent. There were four scallops served with four small cheese biscuits and tasso (I think) gravy. But because I need gluten free, they were able to keep the gravy in a bowl so that I could eat the scallops. My brother enjoyed dipping the biscuits in the gravy and ate them all, so they must have been good. We also ordered two oysters, they were cooked and were impossibly delicious, probably the best cooked oysters I have ever had. They have a nice wine selection, too. Overall, a fantastic restaurant and I would definitely eat here again.

Oh man, so good! A gift card had been burning a hold in my wallet for a while, so decided to go out for lunch when we had some family visiting recently. While the lunch menu isn't really set up for small plates, we decided we wanted to try a little of everything and share, and it was all just wonderful. We got the flatbread of the day, roasted pork nachos, Canadian black mussels, Maryland blue crab cakes, and Asian chicken wrap. And then some orange-cardamom ice cream and caramel parfait for dessert. I am glad we decided to share because it was really a treat to try so many great dishes together. Our server was also spot on. Super friendly, explained menu items, kept our water filled, and timed the dishes coming out perfectly. Looking forward to many return visits!

Father Fats is a very unique restaurant for this area and is a nice change from what's usually offered. I love the changing menu and the cheese boards are always a must! The only thing I wonder about that is - you're paying $3.75 per cheese... but you only get one serving of bread, jam, and nuts no matter how many cheeses you order? It is a tapas restaurant designed for sharing plates. The idea is nice, but the prices are kind of outrageous for the amount of food you're actually getting. Three of us dined there recently, and spent $150 between us to feel 'satisfied'. If the restaurant is busy, it gets LOUD! It is very difficult to listen to the waitress, and even the company you're with. I dislike the tiny water glasses as well... I don't want the waitress to have to come back 25 times to continue refilling my water glass -it's unnecessary. The food is always good and always of exceptional quality. As it is quite expensive, dining here can only happen on a very 'special occasion' basis, which is unfortunate.

Closed at 9pm on a Wed. night. We arrived about 8:45 and the staff was very gracious and had no problem serving us. We ordered the flatbread which is always good, no matter the kind. The wild rice and chicken soup was rich and tasty with a little kick. Risotto meatballs were good but small portion. Pork belly nachos a favorite for everyone and a large portion. The Asian chicken lettuce wraps are also a favorite and consistently good. The server kept our water glasses filled. Buttermilk fried chicken and waffles not worth ordering again. More batter than chicken. Overall a good experience. We'll be back again.

"Tapas style" translates to small plates at the price of big plates. The food was good, don't get me wrong, but the pork nachos were $16 and I could have easily eaten two players by myself. Any meal where I feel the need to eat before I go (which I did) and where I'm still hungry afterwards isn't worth $108 for a table of four. The inside was also very loud even though it wasn't packed. The waitress had to practically yell the specials out to us. The hostess was not friendly and we were seated at this table that was half in the hallway so we had to constantly be mindful of keeping the not very comfortable chairs pushed in to not get in the way of staff or patrons using the restroom. Overall not good; considering the atmosphere and dining experience I wouldn't go back unless the food was half price. So sad because we don't have a lot of unique places in the area but the bottom line is that it isn't worth the price.

The cocktail, "The French," was very good. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. The food was okay. Beet salad was fantastic. Fire cracker shrimp was over seasoned (and I'm not talking about it being too spicy--I love spice.) The salted caramel dessert was small, but delicious. I will be going back to see if other dishes might be their specialty.

I really love dining here. The fact that they don't put salt & pepper shakers on the tables shows they know what they're doing in the kitchen. I love trying different things but do have my faves - the firecracker shrimp, mushroom bisque & chocolate salty caramel desert. They took over an existing remodeled building, so they are working with what they have, but the bar is super small and there are support poles in very inconvenient places, which is awkward when it's packed and you're waiting for a table. Creative cocktails, friendly staff and awesome beer & wine selection though! I love the outdoor seating during the warm months, I've sat outside with friends for hours on warm summer nights eating and sharing bottles of wine. Service is usually awesome, and the minor issues I've had were quickly fixed appropriately - you are checked on often and my water glass never goes empty, which is important to me!

New concept in a small town tries to add an edgy flare but comes across as confusing and pretentious. Don't get me wrong, I love new food, but Father Fats misses the mark. Curb appeal is cool with large windows. The interior is ok. Bar area is really tight with limited space. Dining room is splattered with faux graffiti that looks sloppy and forced - if you're going to go the urban art route then spring for a really graffiti artist. Coming in at 7:30 we had to search for the hostess and she said it would be a 30 minute wait for a table of three. Made our way around the crowd at the bar and waited for a drink... And waited... And waited. The bartender seamed distracted and was more focused on chatting with the hostess than making drinks. Ordered an old fashioned and wasn't impressed. I'm glad it was scratch and muddled, but it was very watered down and not enough bitters. 8:35... Finally say down. Tapas are small bites that are fresh and inexpensive. These choices are large appetizers that range $9 - $17 (again, I like paying good money for good food so I'm not bashing the price). Not quite true to European dining. That being said... The food was good. Ordered several dishes to pass and they were all on point. The good food wasn't enough to overlook the awkward space and decor. Would I come back, probably not.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Was looking for something a little different this evening as our son was attending a graduation party, so off we went. Started out with the pork nachos -- O...M...G.... What great flavors. Plate licking good. Then the crabcakes with the mango chutney - good flavor, plenty of crab. Then the lettuce wraps - nice flavor, sauce was sweet. Knew we couldn't do much more so tried dessert. The almond joy truffle needed a little more coconut. But the salted caramel triffle was excellent -- toffee highlights with layers of saled caramel and chocolate cake. So yummy. What a great place -- we love tapas so we can try lots of different things, and really get to the good stuff without all the starchy things. Too bad we don't live here -- this would be our hang out.

This place has been a heaven send here in North Central Wisconsin! You don't find many places like this in small town Wisconsin. It's great, fresh, good looking food, combined with an eclectic atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone. The food is fresh, clean, great tasting. The staff is warm, knowledgable, and helpful. You can tell by the presentation of the food that the chefs in the kitchen care about making food! Get the crab cakes. They are my favorite!
(5)Rob B.
I like to base a restaurant primarily on the food. That being said this place is pretty solid. Most of the dishes were executed pretty well. Some interesting combinations with some of the dishes that worked in rather interesting ways. We had the oysters, Calamari, Alligator & crawfish, and the Swordfish. No too expensive and a reasonable value all things considered. Service was decent though my water was dry for a spell and I had to ask for more.

This is truly an unexpected find in downtown Steven's Point. Diamond in the rough, as it were. The restaurant has all of the makings of a big city hot spot without all the hype and high prices. I consider it moderately priced for tapas, and they really come to the table with an amazing presentation of the word. From homemade pretzel bites and spiced queso to shrimp and pork egg rolls in a boldly sweet and peanut-rich sauce. Everything from the signature watermelon spritzer to the seared scallops and housemade corn biscuits was expertly crafted. You can tell there is passion in the making of these dishes and drinks, and I would travel from the smaller surrounding towns just to dine here again. I would love to sample more. In fact, I was sad to go, leaving behind 3/4 of a menu that had appealing dish after appealing dish. I am hoping that the lamb meatballs and the duck crepe are still to be found on my next visit. I was happy to see that duck made an appearance on the menu more than once and that it was offered in so many ways beyond confit. Thank Heavens for Father Fats food geniuses. Keep the creativity and the decadent, delicious food coming!

best restaurant in Stevens point? probably. this slice of urbania in a bucolic college town is a welcome change of pace from all the brown food joints and applebee's wannabes that dominate the landscape. you point folks need to stop falling for that crap. the menu changes daily, is very creative, and is quite reasonably priced. had a killer bloody mary, which is made from a labor intensive house-prepared mix that shits all over your mrs. t's. only reason I won't go five star is a marked lack of vegetarian options the 4 times I've visited. could be I just caught them on the wrong day, and besides, they'll happily make you something off the menu to suit your dietary needs. would be nice to have a few choices to browse, however. good job father fats!
(4)Gina S.
The service is excellent and attentive. The staff makes themselves available to wave down if need be. The menu is impressive for central WI. On our first visit we ate at the bar because of the lengthy wait for a table. Scallops and brussel sprouts were perfect. Bartender offered to speak with the chef regarding my dietary concerns and my needs were met. On second visit I was disappointed in the firecracker shrimp. The shrimp was tough, almost like it had been prepared ahead of time and microwaved to order. That's odd because shrimp takes a few minutes to prepare. Shrimp should be tender unless it is cooked to a rubbery doneness, which is what this was.

I saw an article in the Wausau Daily Herald about this new restaurant, Father Fats. The article said that it is owned by Christian's Bistro which is fabulous. So my wife and I decided to check it out tonight. This restaurant reminded me of Christian's of course but even more so of the Sample Room in Northeast Minneapolis which is terrific. The concept here is small plates and regular plates. We shared 4 plates ranging in price from $6.99 to $11.99. They were very busy tonight (Saturday) and so there was a bit of a wait before our first plate arrived. We started out with Bruschetta which was excellent. One ingredient is Neuske's bacon. There were only 4 pieces of bruschetta. Next we had Seafood Jambalaya which was excellent also but perhaps a bit too spicy. There was a good variety of seafood in the dish. Next we had Baked Herb Crepes. One ingredient is asparagus: very good to excellent. Our final plate was Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Their sweet chili sauce was very good to excellent. My wife indicates that she would prefer the chicken warm - hot. I agree. Their desserts are very small but inexpensive. I had the salty caramel parfait: Good - very good. Overall we got to experience a wide variety of flavors in 1 meal. The place is upscale. It's quite noisy. Our server, Tina, was excellent.

This is a very solid restaurant and its a bit surprising this is in Stevens point and not a larger city. Every dish was phenomenal to say the least. Its really not as pricey as everyone says it is, but keep in mind the drinks can rack up the bill.
(5)Michael F.
Meh.....it DOES have a big city feel, and it's the only place I've found in Point that reminded me of being in Minneapolis. That said, a lot of places in downtown Minneapolis are overpriced and underwhelming, and so is this place. I lived in Spain for a few years, so I love the idea of tapas/sampling plates. The thing is, the appeal of tapas is that you can try a lot of different foods for relatively cheap. That's a little hard to accomplish when your plates are frequently $15+. If you charge that much, provide enough food that you only need 2-3 plates to fill up, which is not the case here. I'll probably come back again, because there isn't much else like it in Point, but it's not without its faults.
(3)Chris W.
I regularly come here for the Sunday brunch menu. Awesome decor, fantastic wait staff, incredible food. I have yet to be disappointed with my experience at Father Fat's.
(5)Joe L.
We made our first visit here last night, it will not be our last! Exciting bursts of flavor in small doses. We had three plates between the two of us and were satisfied. Absolutely fantastic!
(5)Ryan R.
Amazing food in central Wisconsin! I've been here twice now--once with a large group. Each time the service was excellent and the food fantastic (they even gave our large group 2 plates of tapas on the house). Everything was perfectly seasoned--the kitchen doesn't rely on mountains of salt to improve the flavor of the food. Wine selection is eclectic and very reasonably priced. I can't wait to be back in Stevens Point to eat here again.
(5)Benjamin S.
Had a great meal here with some friends. It was a fun and energetic place and we can't wait to go back
(4)Brenda M.
Menu is limited to taps and a few actual entrees. The atmosphere is hip and young. Food was good but our waitress was a bit on the rude side. She didn't tell us the specials, brought us the wrong drinks and didn't offer desert.
